BAMBOO SCAFFOLDING

November 25th, 2008
14 Comments

This is Shwedagon pagoda under repair covered with traditional bamboo scaffolding in order to process burnishing the gold plates. This is the biggest bamboo scaffold I have ever seen in my life. The process takes place once a year during THA-DIN-GYUT and TA-ZAUNG-DAING, auspicious Burmese lunar months. Donors offer pure gold plates to the pagoda believing that they will get golden days in their next lives.

Hadn’t done yet since October? I wanted to know how many bamboos they used for that and any better idea to find other solutions like using steel frames or cranes for scaffolding instead of using bamboos. I do love to look again and again for Bamboo Architecture for scaffolding. It’s look so amazing and awesome especially to Sequence Design of Scaffolding even I don’t think too much for how they make so strong for supporting each other. If I were a Prime Minister one day … I would like to put one Degree Program .. may be even Ph.D Program for Bamboo Architect and Engineering. Like the way of Bros in my working firm. :) :P

@ MYO HAN HTUN >> Yes, Ko Toe. They still under process until now. The legend of using bamboo is its flexibility, bro. That is what I have learned from an experienced Burmese architect. Steel frame? How many hundreds of tons of steel you need to cover the stupa? So, Bamboo is the most favorable solution, bro. That’s what Burmese engineers master and cost effective.

Bro!!
Both bamboo scaffolding and your idea of capturing on it are quite artful. Like you it is my first experience of seeing on such kind of gorgeous one. Holy Shwedagon Pagoda enshrined with the relics of omniscient Loard Buddha and skillful bamboo scaffolding, how excellent your creation is!!! Thanks. :)

@ Shwe Wut Hmone Khine >> Nyi Ma. Thanks a lot for your encouraging comment. You make me click my camera more, seriously. Your beautiful comments always make me smile both in terms of appearance here and mentally. Yes, this giant bamboo structure is superbly awesome especially to those European. And I am proud to present the world that Burmese people still have those giant handmade structures nowadays…
