MEDITATION

I focused on the man and made the pagoda off-focus. The result was wonderful.

Photo Information
Camera – CANON REBEL XSi
Exposure Time – 1/15s
ISO Speed – 800
Focal Length –20mm

SHOOTING

This is a very first shot created with CANON SLR in my life. It’s not mine, of course. That’s my friend’s camera. My high school friend, Wai Yan Chit Maung. He came back here for his vacation. Yes, I was surprised seeing him holding a CANON SLR (CANON EOS REBEL XSi) with a giant zoom lens. He never shared with me that he too is a photography hobbiest. We went along Yangon River to have some seagull shots. And this is again on SHWEDAGON pagoda. I saw this man on meditation. The way he set aside his slippers and the umbrella is a very character of Burmese. See his slippers underneath his butt? Yes we used to sit like this when we were young. You know why? Because we were afraid that our slippers will be stolen. We went traditional operas where there was no seat, so we need to settle on the plain ground and yes we utilized our slippers as floor map.

That’s great picture. This is very common people used to carry umbrellas and slippers with them while praying the homage. The focus is perfect.

Was that man aware that you were taking picture of him?

Canon EOS 450D (aka Rebel XSi) is a good camera and I believe the first Canon SLR with LiveView. Does it feel smaller in your hands compared to your Nikon?
I like your creative shot angle. It’s a bit bright for my taste though.
I think if you take a couple of steps back and take it at about 50mm focal length it might give you even better DOF.
Then again, sometimes, photography is not about depth-of-field.. it’s about depth-of-feeling, and your picture has plenty.
Nice Job, bro !!

@ MYO KYAW HTUN >> Thanks a lot for your compliment, bro…

@ Suwei >> It’s about the perspective of the cameraman, my sis… cheers…

@ Ozy Liu >> Honestly, No…

@ Soe >> It’s actually the same size with my D40, bro… Yes, it is a nice SLR… It was too bright because I used a bounce flash… I am glad that you like the depth-of-feeling, bro…

@ Treasure >> The point is CONTRAST… Try to reflect the hailing reflection of Buddhism by focusing this man and blurring the pagoda in the background…

I like not only the way of your focus but also your description to the scene. Excellent work, bro!!! I honestly confess you are a man of great ideas and you can share obviously your point of view on the objects with others. Now I accept that a picture can turn into a paragraph and so can a paragraph into a picture.
